Promotion from constable to sergeant under the NPPF follows 4 national steps. Step 2 is a 3-hour multiple-choice legal exam where you must score at least 55%. Passing remains valid for 5 years.

   150 multiple-choice questions in 3 hours across Crime, Evidence and Procedure, and General Police Duties. Pass mark is 55%, valid for 5 years.

   Your force runs its own selection process against the Competency and Values Framework to match qualified candidates to sergeant vacancies.

   Étape 4 sur 4 : Step 4: Temporary promotion and WBA

   You complete a 12-month temporary promotion and a work-based assessment portfolio before substantive confirmation in rank.
